The European Researchers Night 2016

The European Researchers' Night was initiated in 2005 under the European Union FP7 Programme and since then is organized every last Friday in September, with the aim of promoting science and research, science careers, as well  as raising awareness on the influence of research on our daily lives.

Hydro-Engineering Institute Sarajevo (HEIS), Oxfam Italia - Office in BiH and Tidea Ltd. Banja Luka have coordinated the organization of this year’s edition of “Researchers' Night in B&H", in which B&H has been participating since 2012.

On Friday, September 30, 2016, the "Researchers' Night in B&H 2016" was held in six cities: Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar, Bijeljina, Goražde and Travnik.

The event was organized in Wilson´s promenade in Sarajevo, and was opened by Mr Khaldoun Sinno, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in BiH, and Mr Nedžad Koldžo, Mayor of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo. The Municipality of Novo Sarajevo hosts the event every year and is also one of the sponsors of the event in Sarajevo.

This year, for the first time, the National Museum of B&H joined the event, and the Museum expert staff has prepared seven different and interesting workshops and presentations, whereas the History Museum of B&H also opened its doors for visitors. All generations of visitors, were able to enjoy the amenities offered, a special educational and entertaining program prepared for children in form of workshops, drawing activities, music and educational lectures. Visitors were able to participate in different interactive experiments and scientific games, exhibitions, quizzes, screenings, and workshops.

The involvement of the Hydro - Engineering Institute Sarajevo is particularly interesting. Every year within the organization of this event, the Institute also provides laboratory experiments for children; with the aim of approaching different achievements in water segment to youth. The Institute is traditionally responsible for coordination of activities involving primary and secondary schools within the Sarajevo Canton, thus encouraging young people to explore additional extracurricular activities in schools, and then present their projects at the event.

This year, 20 research projects were presented by students from several Sarajevo high schools, and by students of the Tuzla International High School.

In addition, every year the task of the Hydro Engineering Institute is to design and implement Science and Innovation Fair. Visitors have enjoyed various presentations of achievements and innovations in the field of biology, medicine, dentistry, civil engineering and architecture, astronomy, electrical engineering, geology and others.

Novim KEAP-om do boljeg okoliša i održivog razvoja

Izrada projekta će trajati devet mjeseci i podrazumijeva realizaciju slijedećih aktivnosti: izradu izvještaja o stanju okoliša u Kantonu Sarajevo, liste okolišnih problema i prioriteta, Akcionog plana zaštite okoliša KS i organizaciju konsultativnih sastanaka, radionica i javnih rasprava. KEAP usvaja Skupština Kantona Sarajevo u skladu sa Zakonom o zaštiti okoliša Federacije BiH.

Man, karst and DRINKADRIA

Complementing an annual international scientific - professional conference "Man and karst 2016" organised in Blagaj from 19-22.05., the third and closing National Drinakdria project workshop has been organised and held within.

An issue of cross-border karst hydrology, particularly in terms of sources used for water supply, has been highlighted as a special theme of this year’s conference. The fact that the source is located in one country and its catchment area in another poses a great challenge, when it comes to protection, in both scientific - professional and legal terms. Addressing this challenge was the core value of the "Networking for safe water supply in the Adriatic region" (DRINKADRIA) project, implemented for the the past 2,5 years within the IPA ADRIATIC CBC PROGRAM 2007-2013.

Relying on the longstanding tradition of the gathered participants and interesting thematic basis, the Hydro Engineering Institute, in cooperation with the NGO Centre for Karst and Speleology, has managed to intrigue about 72 authors of scientific-technical works, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Australia, Italy and France, to participate in the meeting via published scientific papers and oral and poster presentations. The DRINKADRIA project partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina (Hydro Engineering Institute SC, Public Utility Company LLC.) have presented the results achieved through numerous scientific and research activities generated during the project.  Overall, 45 participants of the meeting have contributed to the regional and professional connecting and especially motivating and promoting of young researchers.

On the third day of the conference, a field trip has been organised where participants visited Kravica Waterfall, Source Vrioštica, Spring Tihaljina, Lake Nuga, Lake Krenica, Spring Lištica River and Mostar Blato. This area was the subject of investigation works within the DRINKADRIA project, since most of the catchment area belongs to the Prud source, used for water supply in Croatia.
